Tier 1 (General ) VISA extension

Hi folks,
1 )I have Tier 1 VISA and it is valid from June 2009 to till 1st June 2012. If I go for the extension will I get the extension VISA from June 2012 or the time when I applied for the VISA.
2) I heard that when we have visa for 6 months validity...if we go for dependent visa for wife..the dependent visa holder should not work in UK with 6 months validity. Is that correct one?

1) If you apply now you will get visa from current date.
2) There is no such rule. If you have read some where please specify

for point 2 ) I came to know that there is rule only for Student visa and PSW visa holders..and some special casess.......
