Moving to Canada

Post by gillws9 » Wed May 07, 2014 6:48 pm

Hi,

I am EEA citizen living in UK since 2007. I have a Masters degree here in UK. We (me, wife and kids) have planned to migrate to Canada in the coming months. I have applied for a Job and hope to get selected soon in the coming weeks. Recently, the rules have changed from 1st of May for skilled class migrants applying for PR. I am now confused. Should I apply for a Work Permit or a Permanent Residence under the new rule? Also, If I receive the work permit, can I immediately apply for a PR once I start working. One of my friend told me apply for a PR here in Uk and then go to Canada but I don't think that is a great idea as I won't be able live and work without restrictions. The real problem I have is that my wife's 5 year EEA family visa expires this year for which I can't wait after applying for the PR. I am really confused... :?

If you accept this employment offer and further LMO is positive, one of the easiest way is to come over Canada on a work permit, and whilst here apply for PR. Mind you, either way will be on a closed work permit for at least 1 year.

We were transferred here, a few months later applied for a Provincial Nominee Program, once that was approved (within 2 weeks) then we applied for PR. Then processing time was 8 months. On and all, in less than a year we became landed immigrants.

Regardless of your wife applying now for PR in the UK by using form EEA4; once she moves from UK and remains away for more than 12 months, she will not longer be a resident and will have to apply for another EEA-FP to enter UK.
Life is short, so let's get moving!
* Passport received: Family Permit approved AUG-22, 2011
* Landed in the UK: DEC-04TH-2011
* Received RC: MAR-21ST-2012
* Back to North-America Jul 2012
