How long did it take for your work permit renewal to come?

My Swedish boyfriend is here in Canada on a work permit that expires May 30th, 2008. We applied for the renewal of this work permit last month (the website said to do so at least 30 days prior to the expiry of the permit).

Now I'm looking at the current processing times, and it says 34 days. I don't know if this typically includes weekends or not. We sent his application registered mail, so I know they recieved it exactly 40 days before it will expire.

My question to you: how long did it take before your renewed work permit came in the mail to you from the time that you applied?

Also - what happens if May 30th rolls around and we still haven't heard from them? Does he have to leave the country until it comes?

I'm freaking out here & very scared.
