E2 and L1 visa question

Post by Jai » Mon Feb 26, 2007 1:27 pm

Hi everyone
I've been working as a senior engineer in Broadcasting for about 20yrs and have decided to move to USA ideally with a view to settle.

I've taken voluntary redundancy at work and hope to go there on an E2 visa however i do realise that it is a temporary visa having read up on it so it wont help me get a green card later on,
What if i buy a share in the limited company family business (presently i am not a party to the business except for helping them out whenever i can for free), will this help me to apply for a L1 visa after a year.
What if i want to go right now on an E2 and buy a business to avoid hanging around in the UK for another year , am i then still able /eligible to apply for a L1 visa later on after the min 1 year qualifying period to apply for a L1) or is this wishful thinking, do i have to be in the UK for the coming year, also if i do then which is the best wayto do this , should i buy shares in the company and become a partner/joint director or be employed by the company in a managerial role? The business is in news retailing with a fairly qualifiable turnover.

My other option is to go there on an E2 and wait for my inlaws in the US to file for my wife under family sponsorship , however i believe this can take anything upto 12 years plus to come through.
my Spouse and I with 2 children are all british Passport holders.

Many thanks and appreciation to anyone who can offer advice,
also can anyone recommend any reputable firm of lawyers dealing in US immigration in London.

Thankyou
