US stamp

Post by immigration1 » Fri Nov 16, 2007 1:31 pm

What does it mean when a red US immigration stamp has the following:

'Admitted' has been crossed out and above it it is written 'Paroled' and instead of WB/WT it says 'CP'...

Did you get that stamp in 1999-2000? At that time the law authorising the Visa Waiver Program had expired and had not yet been renewed by Congress, which meant that no one could be admitted under the VWP. As a result INS authorised immigration officers to grant "conditional parole" to those who would otherwise have been eligible for the VWP.
