Credit history

Post by darko » Sat Jan 01, 2005 1:10 am

Hey,

I have been living in the US for quite a while but kinda considering moving to Canada or Europe. I was wondering whether credit history (which I spent years to build here) can move to either Canada or Europe? Or will I have to start from scratch:(?

Credit history is not transferable - however you can talk to your US bank e.g. citibank and they would (on a discretionary basis) be able to issue you credit cards through their UK division - this way you can start developing your UK credit history.

Nope - such is still discretionary in Canada even from the US....I know cos I have lived there. Reason is that building credit is determined by 'local' events e.g. job, paying bills etc..you have no record in the local/ home country you are moving to  .
