UK Partner and Kiwi Partner moving to NZ

Post by lilliewhite » Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:58 pm

Hi ya,

I have recently met (July 06) my UK partner here London and we are planning on moving to NZ in December 06 where we will have our child mid 2007. We will also plan on getting married.

Can anyone provide info/steps to take on what we will need to do to ensure his status will be legal in NZ.

I am assuming once we are married he will be legally allowed to stay in NZ.

He will be flying with a return tkt and coming into NZ as a visitor and then we will marry a bit later. Is this legal?

He also had a criminal record 10 years ago, would this need to be declared on the entry card into NZ as it happened a long time ago?

Thanks for your help.....LW :D

Don't make assumptions when dealing with immigration laws. How long have you been in the UK, out of interest?

Hiya
Im going through the Residency process at the moment, but its the other way round! Im in NZ on a work permit and met my NZ partner over here.
The usual onus is that you have to supply evidence that you and your partner have been in a relationship for at least 12 months....but if your pregnant, not sure how that lies with them ?
In terms of your partner coming over here on a visitors permit ? Thats allowed and it can actually be extended from the 6 months they allow you to stay as a visitor, to an extra 3 months which could then give you that extra time together as a couple for NZ Immigration and by then you would have had your baby also.
My advice though is for your partner to apply for Residency asap as I have been told by NZ Immigration the applications are taking anywhere between 6-12 months before they reach an answer !!
Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing, do feel free though to ask me anything, as I have so so much Residency crap lying around at the moment, will be glad to give it some use !!
Wot part of London are you at ??? and where u planning on living in NZ ? :D
