OCI for UK born India baby in India...

Post by bellyboy » Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:21 pm

Appreciate your help!
I and my wife are PR holders. We haven't applied for British citigenship though we are eligible for more than Two years. We have been blessed with a Baby girl and my family required to go to India urgently. So we took the Indian Passport for our Baby and they flew to India.

In India, we applied for the British Passport for the baby and we got the new British passport for the Baby. What is the quicket procedure to take the OCI card in India and then bring my family back to UK?

If the OCI card can not be issues in Two weeks time then what is the alternative approach? Do we need to submit the Indian passport of the Baby in India or can fly with both the passports to UK and then apply for OCI in UK?

Rgs,

For OCI one of the parents need to be British.

You can only apply for PIO, in the UK it takes around 2 weeks. Not sure how long it takes for processing in India.

I believe the OCI is for people to go back/visit India. If you are coming to UK, you do need an OCI. You can do that when you come to India.

Victor, Thanks for your reply.

We got more information and are in the process of verifying it. As we receveid the British Passport for the Baby, technically we should surrender the Indian Passport in India as my family is in India now. The options are
A) Fly with British Passport to UK from India and surrender the Indian Passport in UK once we apply for POI/OCI card in UK. We might need to take NO-OBJECTION certificate from the local Police Commissionr office.

B) Apply for the POI/OCI card in India and wait for 4 weeks (may be less or more) in India and surrender the Indian Passport and fly to UK.

Hi Bellyboy

What did you do in the end? Unfortunately we are in the same situation. My baby is in India and has british and indian passports but no visa. He wasn't allowed to fly from India. Did you mange to get an OCI card from India and if so, how long did it take?

Thank you.

Siva
