Extending stay from Visit Visa to OCi

Hi

I have applied an OCI application for my son and can't wait for it to get approved before I could send him to India. He already has a visit visa (valid for the next 4 months). I am planning for him to stay for upto 6 months in India.

Now the question is, will it be legal for my son to stay in India beyond 4 months if he enters the country on a visit visa and his OCI application gets approved and processed before his visa expires ? Does he have to exit the country on the same visa in which he entered ?

In my understanding :

1 ) He cannot stay in India beyond expiry of his visitor visa.
2) Immigration officer will ask to produce his OCI book when he leaves from India, If he hasn't then he may encounter some issues.

Let me add few more details here. What I'm planning to do is,

1) send him, with my wife, to India (on visit visa)
2) My wife will bring back his passport, which I will use for his OCI
3) Once I get his OCI, will send back the passport to India
4) When my son returns after 6 months, he will have his OCI card with him then.

I am not sure if it is illegal to carry someone's passport , you better check with passport office if they allow in case of minor.
also you need to check whether Indian authorities allow any one to carry someone's passport.
