Minor Children & Entry Visa to India

My 2 children are minors with British passports(previously held Indian Passports) (Parents British Citizens with OCI)
We have not applied for OCI for the children. Now passports are expiring in 6 months time and we are travelling to India in July for 2 weeks, so can we apply for entry visa? as we want to renew their passports after return and then apply for OCI.
can we still apply for Visit visa applications by post?

You can apply for OCI and also parallely apply for visit visa to INDIA. While the OCI card is being processed, you can travel to INDIA on travel visa. You may need to register with FRRO depending on the length of stay.

Looks like E-visa will come in effect for British Passport holders by June, then apply from the comfort of your home and apply for OCI once you have renewed the passport after you are back, but note that if at all the e-visa comes into effect, it is valid only for 30 days stay plus you cannot extend it.
