Indian passport for UK born baby (mothers name issue)

Post by shubhoh » Fri Nov 11, 2011 10:28 pm

Situaton: Both parents are on Indian passport with ILR stamped after baby was born in UK. MN1 will take time so we decided for Indian passport for now as we want to travel soon but baby's registration has been refused at HCI London.

Reason given: Baby’s UK birth certificate has the mother’s married name while mother’s passport (&visas) has maiden name.

Documents we produced:

1)The way UK birth certificate is formatted is that it writes married name as mothers name & maiden name separately below. Council here has confirmed that this is correct according to UK standards and they will not amend it under any circumstances.

2)We have produced marriage certificate to confirm maiden & married name.

No matter how much I tried to explain the person at counter he keeps insisting the names should match exactly. Its a flaw in the process, why can't they check the marriage certificate to confirm the surnames.

All our travel plans are in a mess now. It’s a shame and I fail to understand why such genuine applicants are put through this harassment.

Do you see a way out?

Change mother's passport match first.

Yes this is a solution but then we would have to transfer visas to the new one.

Finally, we were able to get the birth certificate changed (UK - GRO headoffice). For anyone in similar situations try 'corrections.re-reg@ips.gsi.gov.uk'

Thanks Vinny for the responses. This is a great forum!!
