English test for ILR

Post by david1955 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 6:55 pm

Hi I have a long way to go for ILR , will be due in nov 2014, if i get my tier 2 extension in nov 2012. But i am just asking this question in advance as we have to sought few things out before our ILR.

My wife will be applying with me as my dependent for ILR. As after oct 2013, my wife will have to give english test with a B1 level to qualify. My wife is planning to give IELTS test , as she can use the IELTS test score for her ORE examination purpose as well.

she is planning to give the test in september 2012. and we will be applying for ILR in nov 2014. As you know IELTS score is valid only for 2 years. So my only question was will she be able to use her IELTS result for ILR, if she gives the test in sep 2012?

Is IELTS regarded as English language speaking and listening qualification at B1 level or above ?

I hope so, it does covers the speaking and listening section in it and anything from 4 to 5 band is B1 equivalent

It does appear from the link you provided that IELTS (Academic and General Training) awarded by Cambridge ESOL meets B1 level.

Now I do not know if it will be acceptable if this is submitted 2 years after test date.

In any case, I think you are thinking about this way ahead in advance. UKBA will soon publish detailed guidance on the rule changes. You can then check if your plan will succeed.

It will be to early to comment on this. The rules changes here over night. So better wait till your ILR is due.

Secondly, when she will be in UK, she will be in a better postion to prove her english speaking ability and can easily pass English test at level b1 of CEFR OR what ever test they have in place at that time.
The question is... to be or not to be....
