Council tax vis-a-vis naturalization

Hi,

I live with friends who own the property and pay full council tax WITHOUT claiming any benefits. However, since the council tax is not in my name, will I be accused of evading council tax ? My understanding is that council tax is for a property based on it's band and as long as the full amount is being paid, I should be fine. But please do confirm or deny this. Thanks in anticipation.

Millions of people in the UK living in flatshares and houseshares do not directly pay council tax (i.e. have a council tax bill in their own names). The only way you can be accused of evading council tax is if you don't pay a council tax bill that is directly in your name.

.... or I think if you give false information, or fail to give relevant information, to the Council Tax office so that bills are not issued in your name ... when on the facts they should be in your name.
