Unique skills to work in the UK?

Post by notscared » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:30 am

Hi all,

So ... I work for quite a big multinational company here in the UK. My line manager is in touch with out HR department trying to get me a work permit. I am currently on the 2 yr Working-Holiday Visa.

HR has responded saying that is possible, but he will need to prove that I have unique skills in order for it to be approved. He is quite willing to do so, unless it is not too far from the truth?

Any successful applicatants know what kind of skills will help my application? Or if anyone has an idea..
I basically do a job most people could do, but I have been working here for over a year and they are quite happy to let me stay.. we just need to name some skills which will be acceptable by the board?

Many thanks for your help.

Well, it depends on what work you are currently doing.

Hahaha! You peeps are well cheeky on here! I like it!

I basically work as a Assistant Facilities Manager (do like project management) and am the designated Health adn Safety Coordinator ..

I'd prefer to do things above-board ;)

Work permit applications are evaluated by WP office based on the profile of the job and the merit/skills and the background of the employee and employer.

I think they go by a shortage list and by and large commonsensical judgements based on the records in front of them and papers provided when approving a case.

With your specific case, I'm not sure whether Facilities management is in the shortage list.
However, there are various special provisions for companies headquartered outside UK and having local operations in the UK for bringing people on work permits.
These work permits are treated as 'special workpermits' and they are granted for employees that statisfy certain criteria rather than just unique skills.
As far as I’m aware, HO doesn't distinguish the FLR granted for such applicants(employees) for qualification/changing immigration status(to FLR-2, ILR etc )
