Stuck in London due to passport renewal

Hi there,

Came to London to renew my passport using a faster method. I paid and applied for a fast track service with a guarantee that my passport will be finished in in one week. This was more than 2 weeks ago. The office called me to state that my passport need several weeks due to eligibility checks. I submitted letter to retrieve my current passport so that I can travel back to resume my work and support my family by the time the new passport is issued, but the office refused my request. With no guaranty on when my passport will be finished, I'm stuck here far away from my work and family, with a lot of expenses!
I highly appreciate any tip to resolve this matter, so I can go back to where I reside.
