Home Office Refund

Post by tier2013 » Wed Jun 25, 2014 5:27 pm

I just received notification via an email that the Home Office would pay back the £450 that it owed me as an application fee refund. The email also asks whether I am happy with the way the matter has been resolved.
In truth, I am not at all happy because it has taken the Home Office almost 8 months to pay this back, and I have had to send numerous emails to the complaints department and then to the parliamentary ombudsman to get this done.

My question is whether I have any grounds to ask for damages from the Home Office for their delay ion paying back this amount because it has thrown my financial situation into serious distress.
Will I need legal representation for this?
The email mentions near the end that I can write to them if I am not satisfied.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

To be succesful you will need to prove how the delay by the border agency has caused you financial distress. If i was in your shoes i would just accept the money and move on .

I am trying to get a refund of nearly GBP1k after 2 years of chasing. Would you have a email you can share where I can file a complain? Thanks

I have used the complaints email address on the website and also complained via the Parliamentary Ombudsman.

Has anyone actually received a refund from the Home Office?

It is coming up to a year and three months since I started the complaints process in order to retrieve my court fees, and I have tried complaining directly to the Home Office as well as the Parliamentary Ombudsman, but nothing has come of it.

Anyone have any advice or other avenues I can pursue in this regard?

Thank You
