I am a american who's fiance is english. We're in the process of getting the info for a finace visa. I plan on moving to the UK to live with him and his daugther who he has sole custody of. I was looking to find out how long does this fiance visa take to get a reply back on and what are the costs of doing the application on line. Am I taking the correct steps. I've read and gotten some varying info from lawyers and do not want a mistake on any applications.

As far as how long the application process takes, it depends on how you apply. If you apply online and the mail your supporting documents to the consulate, the total time is about two weeks, on average. If you apply in person, it's a same day service for straightforward application.

What state do you live in? That will determine where you apply. (The 3 visa-issuing consulates are Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.)
Have a look on www.britainusa.com for all the info, supporing documents etc.

The cost for a fiance visa is $1050. It is good for 6 months, and you must enter the UK and marry before that 6 months is up. You cannot work while on a fiance visa, but once you apply for and get teh spousal visa after the marriage you will be able to work.

my fiance is coming for a vaction here and we are going to have to go to L.A to apply. It sounds easier to do it in person. Are there any papers he should have with him while we apply for my visa? Should I be carrying anything as far as papers beyond my Birth cert. and the ones listed with the site. I live 4 hrs away from L.A and just want to make sure I have everything in hand in case of something popping up.
