New rules mean an extra five points will be awarded for passing a standard English language test under Australia's points-based immigration system.

He added the Australian government was looking for more immigrants than ever before.

The number of British people emigrating to Australia increased from 8,749 in 2001/2 to 23,290 in 2005/6

Just make sure you don't have any dodgy cousins in Britain because the Australian government will hold you responsible for your extended family's actions and put you on the first flight home.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Not just cousins, even if before leaving UK for Australia, you give away any old possessions like a mobile phone, dvd player to anyone with dogdy links you will be in serious trouble

Probably best just to burn everything before you leave, just in case.
