Parents joint account but mom passed away

Post by john84 » Mon May 04, 2015 9:42 am

Hi All,

My dad applying for visit visa, he has a joint bank account with my mother but unfortunately she has been passed away.
Now if my dad include bank statement, will there be any questions raised about the "consent" of the other account holder (my mother)....or as its a joint account my dad can show/use the bank statement to support his application?

Please help

Hi John. I was in a similar situation when we applied for my mother's visitor visa few months following my father's death. As it is the case in banks globally, the surviving account holder of a joint account has full rights/responsibilities to the monies held/debts owed to the bank. In your case, provided you submit a death certificate of your mother, you will be fine.
