what docs needed for applying a work permit

hello friends,
I am here on hsmp visa and working in a limited company as an engineer.
I shall be applying for my FLR next year, but just a doubt if I dont get through the hsmo extension then what to do. My next option would be to ask my employer to sponsor me a work permit. Just wanted to know, is there a lot of documentation my employer needs to submit.
If anyone does know about the WP please let me know.
