Please Help with IHS

Post by Harry1284 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 12:54 pm

Hi,

I hope some kind soul will help me with this query.

I've got ILR (Permanent residency) recently (Tier 1 general 5 years) and as per new rule it is valid for 10 years. Also I've got married recently and my wife is applying a dependent visa from India. She filled the application online on visa4UK until section BRP collection and appointment. Then the real trouble starts with payment of IHS. There are no clear instructions. It redirects to immigration website. Based on the details we entered it is coming to £1950 which is not correct. We suppose to pay £600.

I called the immigration and inquired about it. They are not really helpful either. But they charge £1.37 per minute for call. She told me that I selected my Visa route wrong and it should be Tier 1 and spent 8 minutes arguing with her. I thought I was wrong.

We started the application again and selected the route as Tier 1 general, then type Tier 1 general-dependents only. Obviously I need to enter my visa expiry date. I entered the date of expiry which is 10 years. Now it gave me £1900 I need to pay. I know it calculates the amount as £200 per year.

Can anyone help me please? I'll be grateful if anyone can help me or explain if someone already faced this situation and came out.

Many Thanks,

vinny

Once you have been granted ILR, there are no provisions for your wife to apply for entry clearance as a PBS dependant. She should apply for entry clearance to join you as a spouse of a settled person under Appendix FM.

However, to calculate the health surcharge, I think she should select "Applying alone > settlement > wife".

The amount is £600.

Thank you Sir for your kind reply.

So are you saying that my wife has exception from paying IHS cos I have ILR?

I've tried that website calculating the amount already. It gives me £600 which is correct but it is completely different when we go to IHS payment section in online application. We filled VAF4A and Appendix 2. Are these not the right applications?

No she does not, she has to pay the £600
We filled VAF4A and Appendix 2. Are these not the right applications?
Correct yes. Following Vinny's advice on the selection she is making, it should only come up with £600.

Dear Casa and Vinny,

I figured it out the mistake my wife was doing. After filling the first part of IHS payment, she also filled the next section 'Add details of the applicant you wish to join' or something like that, which were my details. As she is applying alone and without filling this section it will come out as £630. Thanks guys for your kind help.

All the best!
