Changing nationality of ILR post decision

Post by chssvi » Sun Jan 03, 2016 3:22 pm

Hi all,

I'm revisiting a previous question but I've been mulling over it again and given that my status has changed (ilr instead of tier 2) I thought it would be worth asking again.

My wife has dual citizenship and has been living in the UK under one nationality (let's call it nationality 1) but the UKBA has always been made aware of her second nationality.

She now has ILR (got it in September). Her second (and preferred) nationality does not allow dual citizenship so she's always a bit afraid that they'll find out and take it away. For this reason she has been thinking about changing her BRP to her second nationality.

A couple of years ago we asked the immigration lawyers at my previous employer if it was possible to change the nationality on her BRP (then tier 2 dependant) and they mentioned that it was a very complicated process and that, among others, she would need to evidence that she has renounced her first nationality. We enquired with nationality 1's consulate and the process of renouncing the nationality is a nightmare in itself.

Having said that, these lawyers always complicated things beyond belief, so much so that we did the ILR application on our own (with the helpful advice of fellow forum members  ).

With that in mind we wanted to ask if anyone has any experience changing the nationality on their ILR and if they can give any advice on this.

Thanks in advace.
