Non-british planning to marry non-british

Post by omar.london.uk » Wed Dec 05, 2007 1:43 pm

Dear Forum,

I need some advice here.

I am Peruvian. I have lived in the UK for the last two years.
My current HSMP Visa expires in 2011

I would like to marry my girlfriend in the UK. She is Colombian.
she lives in the UK and her student visa will expire next year.

All the information I find about marriage in the UK refers to non-british
marring British or indefinite leave to remain visa holders.

** Can you please advice as to the procedure I shall follow in my case? **

Regards, Omar

Both of you need to apply for a COA - Certificate of Approval from the HO. Upon receipt of this, you take it to your local council(s) to give notice of marriage. Your intention to marry would be put on the notice board for two weeks I think (can't remember since I married quite a while ago) and if no one objects to your marriage, you would be allowed to go ahead with the ceremony.

Upon receipt of your marriage certificate (assuming the above is fulfilled), your spouse then, will fill in form FLR(O) I believe with the required documentations per the application form and the appropriate fee and she would be issued with resident permit as a dependant on your visa.
I think you would have to tick any other category not covered by this application form when applying and supply the reason for the application.

Google the BIA website for the form and read the guidance notes and also look for Certificate of Approval on the same website.
Praise The Lord!!!!
