UK Visa Help - Defacto

Post by bennej » Wed Jan 09, 2008 4:33 pm

Hi,
I need some advice please!!
I am an Australian, and my girlfriend is a British passport holder and we currently live in the UK. I am on the working holiday maker and we want to apply for the 'De facto Visa', can i? what costs and how much documentation would i have to provide?

Note; we lived together in Aus for about 3 years, however it will be hard to track down any docs that prove we lived together, accept house leases..

Also, would this work both ways, as in, if we wanted to move to Australia in a couple of years, does the UK de facto visa suffice? as both are a commonwealth countries?

Thanks,

:D

You need two years proof of living together, basically.

The cost is currently £395.00 for a postal application and, in addition to the maintenance and accommodation side of things, you will need documentation/correspondence which demonstrates that the two of you have been living at the same address(es) for at least the last two years.

I would suggest that you will need more than a couple of leases in joint names. The BIA typically would expect to see a number of items of correspondence from a number of recognised sources, which spans the last two years. However, if you have been living together, it is likely that you will both have papers from the local authority, government departments, banks, doctors, utility companies, etc., all of which are acceptable.
