Student visa running out

Post by madelinem » Fri May 16, 2008 2:01 pm

Hi,

I am confused about what to do!

I am American, and am currently on a student visa that expires in September 2008. I finished courses last summer but am attending my actual graduation ceremony this summer. I have been in the UK almost 4 years. In this time, I have built up a life. I have a job I love, a partner, and am completely integrated. I can't seem to find an appropriate category to apply to remain.... do I need a visa? A work permit? Both? I don't quite qualify for Tier 1. I suppose I need to switch categories, but the only way I can find to do that is into Tier 1.

I have seen something on Home Office website about a new Tier 1 category (work after study), but there is no information about this yet, as it doesn't go in to effect until the end of July. THe International Graduates Scheme is being scrapped.

My partner and I have been together about a year and a half, so we wouldn't qualify for unmarried partner status.

What should I do??

Thank you,

Madeline
