Lost naturalisation certificate

Hi,

I got my citizenship in June last year and recently moved house, losing my certificate in the process. I'd been lax about getting a Brit passport as I have indefinite leave to remain on my Aussie passport anyways, but as I am leaving the country soon, I thought it best to get my British one sharpish.

Does anyone know who I can contact to get a fresh copy, as the websites (IND, Border Agency) I've visited don't seem to have that information?

There is nothing on the Home Office website so you will have to contact them and ask for instructions:

It is possible that they may not be able to find your file. I hope you have some other correspondence that shows you've been through the naturalisation process.

Your Member of Parliament may be able to assist if you have trouble getting them to respond in a sensible way.


PS your naturalisation certificate is a precious document ... you should take extreme care of it.

It seems to say that in cases of straightforward loss, no suspicion of hanky-panky, a Senior Caseworker decides.

But I bet they don't do it quickly, and what fee you have to pay or exactly how you apply isn't clear. You ought to report the loss as soon as possible, though. If someone gets hold of your lost certificate and succeeds in applying for a British passport before you do, you'll get a lot of grief when you apply.
