Change nationality (new passport)

Post by park2020 » Thu Feb 21, 2019 2:15 am

Hello,

Thank you team and other people.

I would like ask one more question.

I am in The UK having BRP card now.
AND,
I will go to Canada and change my nationality and get New passport(Canadian).
(I will not be able to use my passport when I change my nationality.; Two nationality is not allowed in my country.
So, I must use New Canadian Passport when I go back to the UK.)

Can I go back to the UK with My Current BRP Card and New Canadian Passport?

(I will submit the Migrant change of circumstances form later when I come back to the UK.)

Thank you..

Technically you should be ok on return because the BRP is proof of status for immigration purposes. Although linked to your passport it is a stand alone document.
Where is will get awkward will be when they scan both documents at the point of entry. One will be known and one will not. Your BRP will say you are x nationality and your passport will say y nationality. Then the explanation will have to be given....

What official documents would you be able to supply that would explain your nationality change?

And

Is there an absolute need to return your current nationality passport before you return to the UK? If not travel back into the UK under old nationality and change / inform HO of new nationality after entry.

The question you need to ask yourself - do I want to spend time at the airport waiting to be interviewed and the hassle that causes or is it better to do it in country once you get back.

Make sure you bring your old passport back with you. Even if it is cancelled, it would normally be returned to you. You can't travel on that, but it is still valid for identity.
