Entering UK on Visitors Visa - changed circumstances

Post by jimbo_smells » Sun Apr 21, 2019 2:28 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering whether anyone can help with advice on my wife entering the UK on a Standard Visitor's Visa - but with slightly changed circumstances?

It's a long and complicated story... I am a British citizen, and my wife is Jamaican. We previously resided in Montserrat. In Oct 2018 she successfully applied for a 6 month UK Standard Visitor's visa to visit the UK with me for 4 weeks over Christmas in Dec 2018/Jan 2019.

However, in November 2018 I accepted a new job offer for a job in Dublin, and I moved from Montserrat to Ireland in February 2019.

After our UK trip she returned to Jamaica in January 2019 to apply for an Irish visa to join me (EU spouse).. but INIS in Ireland took several months (supposed to take 4 weeks) and then TOTALLY messed up the application and her visa was refused (long story - they misread it and made several errors). We are currently appealing the decision via a Solicitor, but this could take several more months.

We finally got her passport back from the Irish authorities, so we are planning for her to travel to the UK and stay with my parents until her UK visa runs out in early June. And I will return to the UK from Ireland at weekends.

So if we book her a return flight from Jamaica to the UK (around a 5 week trip) - is she likely to encounter any trouble entering the UK? What should she tell the immigration officers on arrival at the airport? It may be awkward if she travelling alone and I am not with her.. although I am planning to be at arrivals to meet her.

What (if any) evidence would be useful to have on her person..? i.e. a letter from my parents that they can accomodate/host her and/or a letter from me?? Should we be totally honest and explain about the visa situation or will this just raise more flags?

My wife is not currently working, but is registered as a student for a distance learning Postgraduate diploma with a School in Jamaica.

The last thing I want is for her to be refused entry to the UK on top of all the stress we have with the Irish authorities.

Thanks for any advice!
