Updating second name on BRP card - Urgent help

Post by sarathml86 » Tue May 28, 2019 7:43 pm

Hi all - I need an urgent advice on this topic

My wife never had a surname on her passport (yes it is possible to have empty surname) and obtained ILR status with the same details as passport, However when her passport was due for renewal on the counter the officials suggested if we had a marriage certificate (which we had) they could easily add husband's surname to the new passport. We didnt think much at that point and agreed however now we realise the BRP card doesnt have a surname compared to her new passport

The issue is that when we checked online they all suggest for a name change application to reissue BRP card which is 249 pounds and it states within 6 months through UKVCAS service however a premium service would cost 800 pounds, I feel this is a rip off but no point in complaining but the issue we have is I have already booked travel tickets to india and I dont feel confident to submit application to UKVCAS for a name change and wait 6 month for an outcome

We applied for passport renewal in April (wife was 9month pregrnant then) gave birth and I booked travel tickets to home country to take baby to our parents in india but this seems to be the problem as if we decided to submit BRP for an update and if it took upto 6 months it would mean my wife will loose all her air ticket and also her maternity leave before she could take our baby to home country

I am wondering to create a detailed covering letter explaining the situation so the border officer would allow us to get back in so we could complete our travel and then submit the BRP card for updating. I am sure no one would be advising to do so but are there any better option available or am I being seriously wrong here ?Just looking for advices
