Here is a Question... ILR appointment on wednesday...

Post by Leo_Swan » Mon Feb 07, 2005 2:21 pm

Hello all,

So here is my dilemma or situation (call it what you will)

I have my appointment at Croydon on Wednesday 9th Feb for ILR after a 4years work permit and with all this news about immigration and asylum, especially waiting to hear what the out come or new rules will be, what’s a man to do… I wonder if we that came so close will have to wait longer or if we will simply be denied. Being in IT as most South Africans that came over 4years ago, it begs the question.

I wonder if there is anyone one else in the same boat as me?

Anyway better stop moaning and get on with some work.

We will know more by the end of the day, and you will have to see if the policy changes come into effect immediatly. IMHO I dont think that might be the case.

Isn't the 4-year rule a part of the law? It should take time to change it.

Now I wonder about my ILR on Wednesday. God forbid, that I be one of the last people to either get ILR after 4 years or be one of the first to be told to come back in 1 years time.

Well I will phone Croydon in the morning and ask if I should still come for the appointment. Also i will keep everyone informed... mmmmmm

Leo,

I have got the exact same issue with this and have so many questions since I will become one of the hopefulls in April.

-When will the immigration rules actually change?

-Can they change in the next few months?

-Will the Govt. implement some rules immediately to stop more PR applications?

-If they change, do IT people like me say eligible? Tier 1 2 or 3?

I hope it all become clear very soon.

I think you people dont have to worry as all the rules we heard are not implemented immidiately, they are just proposals for such changes and it has to be approved by parliment before they actually implement them.

Leo_Swan i think you go for the appointment without asking and anything.

Be optimistic. Good luck.

i dont think any of the proposed changes will come into effect anytime soon. well they will probably be gradually introduced after the elections. i certainly dont think they will come into effect before April when the new charges that were announced will come into place

Right guys,

I just came back from Croydon and i got my IRL :D .

Got in at 8:30 appointment, made payment at 8:45, and was called for the interview(appointment) at 9:15. After they checked all my stuff i.e. work permit for 4 years with 1 company change and current company went through a name change, 3 months bank statments, employment letter and 3 months payslips. They then said it all looks OK and I should come back in 2 hours time. So I went out for a coffee and returned at 11:00. At 11:30ish they called my appointment number and gave me my passport with my ILR.

Super service and no hickups...

This is the best forum ever, well maybe the one about the Springboks is a tad better... hehe

Congratulations Leo, glad it all went so smoothly. And no doubt you are pleased you could apply now, cost £250, rather rather in April or later, cost £500! Ouch.

So Leo, just a year to go and you can now "complete the set" ... apply for naturalisation!

Any further issues at this present time? Any babies born in the UK? If so it is now possible to register them as British. Also now absolutely no problem claiming any "Public Funds" .... your new visa has no such restrictions.

Thanks John,

I dont have any other issues at present, it has been something i've been waiting for, for four years. (444 my new lucky no.) I do however feel sorry for guys and gals that goes through this, I myself has had sleepless nights, worrying and stressing if i would last the 4 years.

I am just glad that phase 1 is done and i can now change jobs easier since i dont qualify for HSMP.

My advice (if it counts) is, hang in there, keep your side clean and then it will be worth it in the end.

Out and over

Congratulations Leo!!

With something like this, I can understand how one can get worried about the simplest things as I do very often. Like Charles Clark's proposals the other day for example!

The fee has doubled but I guess we would have applied even if it was way more than that to be honest.

I am gonna apply very soon and hope that its as smooth as your experience :)

Congrats Leo,
I do want to ask though, How does a south african get asylum? SA does seem to me to be quite peaceful.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, BUT UNBOWED
