National Insurance# Mix-up & ILR

Post by Shaamu-Kaka » Sun Feb 13, 2005 11:58 pm

Hi,

I am soon to apply for I.L.R under WP category and have got a question.

I was initially given a National Insurance# without having any interview with the relevant authorities etc. This was about 4 years ago. I am still not sure how I was given the original NI number. I know that I started off with a temporary looking one back then but somewhere in the middle, they just gave me another one. I did recieve about 2-3 letter in the 4 year period asking me to confirm who I actually worked for!!

But about 9-10 months ago, I was called for an NI interview to clear out this confusion. They took down all the details and I was then give a new proper NI number.

Now my question is whether this strange NI number confusion would have any impact on the ILR application whatsoever? Do I need to carry some documents with me "proving" that there was some mix-up? I am just trying to avoid a scenario where the HO would think that there is something fishy happening on my part.

Please help!

Don't think so. I was given a temporary NI no when I came to the UK in 1999. I did not have a permanent NI number when I applied for ILR, but my application went through without any problem. The form as far as I remember does not even ask NI number. I got my permanent NI number only after I got my ILR.
However, you would need NI number for applying for UK nationality.
