a friend of mine got her ILR last month (5 year on WP) she applied in person in HO in Glasgow (cos she lives in NewCastle) and the HO personnel said she can apply for naturalization as well if she wants on the day that she get her ILR so she was a bit confused bec all we know is 1 after your ILR before you are qualified for naturalization?

It is, unless she's married to or in civil partnership with a British citizen, in which case she only needs to have ILR on the day of application. (The qualifying period if you're married to or in civil partnership with a British citizen is 3 years, not 5 years, and you don't have to have been married to a British citizen for the full qualifying period; it suffices to be married on the day of application.)

But if she's not married [etc, etc] then, yes, she needs to have had ILR for at least a year when she applies.
