Sponsor vs Visitor Visa for Parents

Post by meets.dude » Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:01 am

Hi Experts,

I want to call my parents for a visit to UK for 6 months. I am a British citizen and my parents are retired but have some income back home in India.
Need your advice on whether to go sponsorship route or use a visitor visa approach? Any pros and cons of either approach?

Appreciate any help you can provide in this regard.

Do you mean sponsoring them for settlement?? If they are coming to visit you, and to stay with you, you should certainly sponsor them - i.e. write a letter stating you will provide for their accommodation and any financial needs, that they have private medical insurance (maybe paid for by you), etc...their application is more likely to succeed that way than if they were to apply without mentioning you at all. They can also obtain further visas as long as they do not break the rules.

If you did indeed mean a settlement visa (which then I assume they will stay longer than 6 months), there are a lot more hurdles to overcome and their income in India might count against them.
