IHS fee for Academic Visitor

Post by GJanova » Tue May 03, 2022 10:44 am

Hello,

I have applied for an Academic Visitor Visa (12 months) for a temporary academic-related purpose in the UK which is a sub-category of the UK’s standard Visitor Visa and paid the visa fee. However, the IHS charge page did not come up in my online application. I understand that the applicants usually need to pay the healthcare surcharge if they're applying for a visa for more than 6 months. At the same time, UKVI indicates that applicants do not need to pay if they’re applying for a Visitor Visa.

I have contacted the UKVI regarding my case and I received the following links to pay the IHS fee:
https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigrati ... cation/pay
https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigrati ... w-much-pay

Honestly, I am confused about how to pay for UK healthcare services as the above links do not list the Academic Visitor Visa.

Any help, personal experiences or advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

Visitor visas and short-term visas

You do not need to pay the surcharge or get an IHS reference number if you’re applying for a:

visitor visa
visa for 6 months or less from outside the UK

You will need to pay for any NHS care you get at the point you use it - unless it’s a service that’s free.

50% is added to NHS bill. The UK government recommends that private insurance is taken out, to be able to claim back any money you have paid to the NHS.

Application being a subcategory of Visitor Visa means exclusion from IHS.
