Requirements for first visit to UK

I have always wanted to visit the UK. Recently I met a man online who I like and we are in the beginning stages of a relationship.

He has invited me over to see him in March 2023. I wanted to ask what the best route would be to visit him.

Should I apply with the intent to meet this man or should I apply on my own merit, as a tourist only?

We have not met in person, so cannot show evidence of us together but can submit daily chat via WhatsApp as evidence. He would be willing to write a supporting letter and let me stay m at his house.

However I think I would be eligible to apply as a tourist on my own. I have a steady job here in the Philippines and can provide proof of this by way of my employment contract. I rent an apartment here in Manila also. I could book a hotel for the duration of the stay to satisfy requirements.

Which would be the best option to proceed? Thanks for your advice.

Your best option in my humble opinion is to go at it solo. No need for encumbrances!

I think you should be honest and upfront from the beginning. Its not unusual these days to visit someone you met online. Just imagine at the UK border the officer asks you why you are visiting the UK, you will start off with a fib and the officer will dig deeper and you will tell another fib to cover that fib. Always best to be honest, especially when it comes to immigration. If caught out you will be in a worse position than being refused..
