eVisa help - Question on how to check if I have eVisa already?

Post by ajay159 » Sun Jul 07, 2024 10:58 am

Hi Gurus

Can you please help me confirm if I have an eVisa already? I already have a UKVI account, as I've used it to apply for my last few in-country UK visa applications. I got my ILR approved earlier this year in Feb 2024. I am a visa national so I received a physical BRP. In that last couple of months, I have received a few emails from UKVI to action the steps to get the eVisa, as part of the digitalisation process.

However, I already have a UKVI account and I can use the 'View and prove you immigration status' successfully. When I use this service I can see my valid ILR status and details, my picture and the 'What you can do in the UK' section. Does this mean I have an eVisa already?

Couple of things to note -
  • In the UKVI visa approval email I received in Feb 2024, it only mentioned BRP and did not mention that I have also received an eVisa. I am guessing it was because I'm a visa national. But they gave me an eVisa anyways?
  • I did use the UK Immigration: ID Check but not in my latest visa application, as it was an ILR application and I had to get an BRP appointment. I used the app for the 2 prior skilled worker visa applications. Note: this was due to changing jobs.
Of course, I haven't actioned the steps in UKVI's email for getting an eVisa. But I wouldn't want to create another UKVI account and apply for eVisa, if I have it already. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Having 'eVisa' is not what you think it is. eVisa is effectively your digital status, you are not given an eVisa. If you follow the process and you can view your status, you effectively have access to your eVisa. eVisa is simply your digital status which shows/tracks your latest immigration status

Thanks, Zimba. I appreciate your response. I understand eVisa is the digitalisation status and not a different visa.

However, I wanted to check how can I confirm if I already have it, as I already have an UKVI account and can see my valid visa status using the 'view and prove immigration service'. It shows my valid visa, my picture and the visa details. Does that confirm the digitalisation was done even without me going through the steps UKVI is requesting everyone to follow?

As you can understand, I wouldn't want to go through the process if there is one already, since that may cause more issues (two UKVI account etc.).

I am not sure what is the process for you to see your digital status. Follow what the UKVI says. If you already have an account, use the same steps with that account. There is no ill effect at all

Thanks, Zimba. Appreciate your help. Since it's a new system, I guess no one knows the details for any edge cases. UKVI's instructions assume you don't have a UKVI account. They give you steps to create a UKVI account and get access to the eVisa, using the Immigration ID app. I don't think I can follow the process exactly, as I already have a UKVI account and can see my visa status online.

Thanks for your help again. I'll try to call UKVI and clarify.

You may only follow the steps that come after the creation of the account. Not sure why the sticking point is the account creation

Having an active UKVI account does not equate having evisa.
Therefore If you have not followed the steps then you are not in process for evisa. If it were automatic HO would not need to send emails to people to enroll.

Hello ajay159,

I am in the same situation as you. Did you manage to confirm about this with UKVI?

Thanks.
