UK Emergency Travel Document

Post by tcpip_helper » Tue Aug 27, 2024 3:36 pm

Hello,

Currently i am in Karachi, I've lost my UK Passport, got police report for that, i am travelling back to UK in next couple of weeks via Saudia to perfrom Umrah (will apply for Umrah visa for that), Karachi to Jeddah is via Saudia airlines and then from Saudia - London is via Turkish Airline (no plan to leave Istanbul airport).

When i apply for emergency travel document online, one of the question is "will you travel directly to your destination?" select Yes or No, do i need to select Saudia and Turkey here, because when i do that the application do not progress and it ask me to change route?

any advise is highly appreciated?

thanks

An Emergency Travel Document is not a like-for-like replacement for a British passport. It is much more limited and intended to help you get back to the UK. It is restricted to a single trip.

Note that not all countries accept UK ETDs for travel through or for entering the country.

Saudi Arabia does not allow entry on or travel with a UK ETD, for a start, so you may have to put your plans for Umrah on hold until you get a full British passport (unless you plan to travel on a Pakistani or other passport). Turkey requires a minimum of six months validity on arrival in Turkey on your UK ETD, and I doubt that a UK ETD is issued for such long validity as a matter of routine.

If you plan to do the Umrah on your Pakistani passport, try entering the route of Jeddah - Istanbul - UK for the ETD, as that will be the direct journey to return to the UK.

Alternatively, I would suggest returning to the UK on the ETD, get a full UK passport and then do the rest of your travels.
