Missing old passport with initial Work permit - HELP!

Hello all,

I find this forum incredibly useful, so thank you to those who have spent time contributing to it.

I will be applying for an ILR this year and I am unable to find my old passport containing my work permit sponsored by my employer (I have moved homes in several occasions).

However I have transferred the work permit into my existing passport last year.

I have done some research via this forum and noted that I can apply for a SAR? which should list the history of my visa application?

So, here are my questions:

1) Can anyone provide information as to what the SAR report actually comprise of?

2) In the application form, do I need to write a letter indicating that I have lost my old passport? And include the SAR report?

3) With regards to Absences from the UK, can I use those dates from the SAR report ?
