I am on IT college (but not degree) studying developing and recently quite a few of my collegues' visa extention was refused and they couldn't finish their studies here. I don't know what went wrong with their applications but there is a ruomour that there is no rules any more and that whoever is few years in the uk on student visa is send home in this way. Reason is lots of fake students...but as I know they attended classes and were eager to pass exams!
I am now anxcious about my case as well. How many years can I study? (my course last two full years but it is not degree and soon i will have to extend visa to finish second year what are my chances ...)
Can someone explain what is happening in Home Office? Why are my collegues from college being refused?
Why are fees so expensive especially the one of £500 for fast response?
Where is that money going?

Thanks so much!!!!

In theory, you can study as long as you want (cannot spend more than 4 years on consequent short courses, though), subject to satisfaction of immigration rules: enough money to pay for fees and support without public money, attendance and intention to leave the country at the end of your studies. It is important to show an "intention" to leave but in fact if you get a job, work permit or HSMP you can extend your stay in that category without leaving.

I wish anyone knew... Just some rigorous measures to cut down on the number of all the foreigners coming here - at the expense of genuine students and other legal migrants.

well... it must have been written in an explanatory letter - lack of money, maybe not an accredited college, no clear intention shown to leave the country after completion of the course, etc. could be all sorts of things.

Two ways of looking at this : the way they explain it and the way it actually is.
In fact it is a very clever way of raising funds "free" money at the expense of foreigners coming here. The British population has been overburdened by gigantic taxes and other ways of swindling money from public. Now when they cannot continue pushing the taxes higher up (because of elections for example, various protest etc etc) they have come up with an solution of grabbing from foreigners this way because they know that if someone wants to stay here most of them will be prepared to pay as much as they are asked - the others don't and they will be forced to leave. This is one of the ways of cutting the number of foreigners here.
Now they use genuine foreigners coming here to get money from them and then use them to fund various sources to deal with illegal immigrants, bogus asulym seekers, building removal centres, extending a number of the enforcement staff and generally boosting their salaries because of over-stressed work.

Thank you for your reply.
Can you please tell me how can we prove that we intend to leave after our studies? In application form there is one question about that and options yes/no to check as an answer.
How much money do students need to show on their bank account?
Are short courses ones that include a year or just six months?
As i read somewhere you can't take more than two years on short courses ie six months courses.
