Work permit+spouse=????

I read the facts and did some searches, but this is all new to me, so please forgive me if I'm treading old ground.

My wife and I are both currently US residents/citizens. While it hasn't been finalized yet, my wife is very close to accepting a position in the UK. The company that's going to hire her is going to sponsor her work visa as well. The firm that recruited her told her that I will be eligible to work in the UK as a dependent, under her work permit. If that's the case, I won't need to apply for my own work permit, correct? I'll be able to relocate to the UK and seek out employment as her dependent as soon as I get there?

Again, these are probably basic, elementary questions, but I just want to be sure we understand what we're getting ourselves into.

Hi UKhopeful,

You are correct.You can work for any employer with your work permit dependant visa but your wife can work only for the employer who will be sponsoring her work permit.

Thanks. So, after she gets her work visa, I'll just need to apply for a dependent visa then. How long does this process usually take?

I applied for Work Permit Entry Clearance for me and dependant visa for my wife together. In all it took 3 days. But I guess in US if you send your application by post it will take not more than 10 working days.
