travelling as a fiance

Post by sigmund » Thu Jun 30, 2005 8:30 pm

i am a uk citizen living in the uk. my fiance is american living in the US. we are about to apply for her fiance visa. my concern is this ----- i visited her in america in january, when i asked her to marry me, i bought the ring, so we were then engaged. i then travelled out to see her again in april. will this count against us, because i travelled to see her while we were engaged?

secondly ----- the official uk visa site says my fiance must take MY passport wiith her to the british consulate in new york, along with all of the other letter, etc. i was once told that its illegal to hand over a passport to an unauthorized person. so do i have to mail her my uk passport?? could i have a certified copy by a solicitor of the relevant pages of my passport made and send them?

What on earth gave you that idea? Of course not!

If you are going to be there, then fine, your passport will be available. However if you can't be there there instead she should take a certified copy of your passport instead. Take your passport to any Solicitors' office and say you want a certified copy. For a visa application the copy does not need to be all the pages. Clearly it needs to include the name and pic page, and also any page relevant to the visa application should be copied .... entry and exit stamps in and out of the USA for example.

And don't skimp on all the other evidence you are producing to your fiancée ... to ensure that she will pass to the satisfaction of the ECO dealing with her application that the financial, accommodation and "evidence of contact" tests are passed.
