Work Permit Worries

Post by pickle » Wed Jul 06, 2005 2:12 am

Hi all..

am new to the forum here and have been doing up some reading on work permit issues... and i have some queries that i hope experts here can give me some help.

before i get down to the situation... let me give you some backgrd of myself. i am a commonwealth citizen and currently hold a second degree from a uk university that will lead me to become a chartered professional within the uk once i get the relevant experience of working full-time in the uk allowing me to go through another examination after that for my professional licence. however, my line of work is such that i do not qualify for the HSMP so i will need to get a work permit on expiry of my student visa in a few months this year.

the situation is this... i have been offered a job in the uk and the employer is now starting to apply for a work permit for me. but having heard horror stories about the number of 'failed' applications, i have been getting the jitters for my own application.

the company is uk based but the owner is american and they have projects worldwide. however the size of the company is not large and would i think fall into the category of a small to medium size.

what are the chances of my work permit application being approved? would the fact that i have worked full-time placements (as required in my course) in the uk while studying affect my application?

any comments much appreciated! thanx!

Having information about your qualification and the job in question enables a match up vis a vis Work Permits UK criteria i.e. your question is lacking in appropriate detail so its impossible (IMHO) to give a definitive answer.

i am in the building/construction industry. what i am concerned is that, the job may be classified as being possibly filled by a local or eu resident.

the job was advertised on their own website and from what i gathered from graduating classmates, some have also applied to the same firm but one friend that i know personally, an eu resident, was not given the opportunity for an interview. apparently, all graduating colleagues from the same university as me, were invited to apply from a list of firms that was provided by the university as possible job contacts. this particular firm falls under this list.

as for going via the HSMP route, i can only do that once i obtain my professional licence.

what do you think are my chances of obtaining the work permit?

any comments would be appreciated. thanx!
