Dental care entitlements

Post by Rohan » Thu Nov 17, 2005 4:06 pm

Hi

Are WP holders entitled to receive NHS dental treatment?

The reason is I just registered self & Fly with a Dentist but I was not sure what to say when they asked me if I needed to register as an NHS or a private patient?

How does it work?

Thanks
Rohan

Absolutely nothing to do with your visa status but finding an NHS dentist and registering under the NHS is extremely difficult in many parts of the country. So don't be surprised if to struggle to find an NHS dentist who will take you. Nothing to do with your visa status.

But if you do succeed, yes, if you have an employment visa you are most certainly entitled to use the NHS. But dental services under the NHS are not free for most adults ... merely subsidised ... so there will be a contribution to pay.

Go for NHS option as in that case you will be charged at subsidised rates. WP holders are entitled to go fo NHS option. Another benefit (may or may not be applicable to you) under NHS is for women during pregnancy and one year post child birth the dental care is free.
