american citizen trying to move to the UK

Post by learea51 » Fri Dec 16, 2005 9:38 pm

Hello everyone,

I am trying to get some advice about my situation. I am american. I have met a UK citizen (online) and we are engaged. He is here in the states with me on the visa waiver program and will be leaving before the visa waiver expires. We plan on getting married soon but are wondering if getting married while he is here will benefit us in the long run. Or will it hurt our chances of getting a visa since we have not know each other much more than 8 months. Or would it be better to wait, apply for a fiance visa and get married in the UK. Does it even matter. I understand that you can work straight away if you are married but if it really doesnt hurt your chances of a visa I would rather have a proper wedding with family etc in the UK.

Also I would like to know how long we would have to wait before applying for the visa once my fiance has returned to the uk. He will get a job once he has returned and we will have proper accomodations. Once the job is secured is it safe to apply or is there a certain amount of time he needs to be working in order to satisfy visa officials?

much thanks

Hi, I am just about to go to bed, so please excuse this brief posting but a quick look shows this recent topic might be worth reading.
