Absence from UK

Post by nsm2010 » Tue Oct 05, 2010 12:15 pm

Hi all,

I am working as Design Project Manager in one of the UK based office and traveling frequently to the Middle East where we are working on most of our projects. I am wondering how it would be possible for me to track record of my absences when I would be filing for ILR.

Can someone suggest me that how could I keep record of my absences from the UK and how HO would be checking my absences when I will submit my case, against claim of days spent in the UK.

Immigration staff at the airport is not stamping on the passport or keeping any record for departures???

Regards,

1. Maintain a record of departure and arrival dates of your trips. When applying for settlement you will need letter(s) from your employer(s) certifying your exact absences for business purposes.
2. There are other methods to capture and verify / store such information e.g. - landing cards, advance passenger information system (e-borders), arrival / departure stamps of transit / destination airports on the passport etc. etc.

Thanks Shushd,

thanks for your quick reply.

Shushd I didn't kept any kind of record for past two years and I traveled a lot during last two years. My passports is filled with stamps on each page and would be difficult and time consuming to establish the record. Is there any other way (which is acceptable to UKBA also) from where I could get my records, like you mentioned as e-borders???

thanks.

After reading the reply from SushdMehta, I checked my passport and boarding tickets (or whatever is remaining of them). I got Heathrow stamps only on arrival but not departure on passport and the tickets stubs have dates but not year. All my tickets have been etickets so the best I can do is take printouts.

All and all these are flimsy proofs which do not stack up to usual 'stamped and signed' level required. I was wondering when it comes to ILR, is it more of a case of put the dates on the application and we (home office) will check with our records if they match. Am I right in assuming this?

For the future reference, Is there a way to get the passport stamped when leaving UK?

Cheers!
