Certificate of Approval Abolished, visitor visa

Post by Angel592 » Mon May 16, 2011 4:41 pm

Hello! I just found out that the certificate of approval for marriage has just been abolished. I already have a UK visitor visa and I am in the UK at the moment. I am an Irish resident and a non EU National. In the UKBA page it says:

Changes to marriage/civil partnership requirements
From 9 May, any migrant subject to immigration control wishing to give notice to marry or register a civil partnership in the UK will no longer need:
a certificate of approval or,
an entry clearance for the purpose of marriage or registering a civil partnership or,
settled status in the UK.

So baiscly does that mean I do not need a marriage visa to get married in the UK now?
However it also says:

Immigration requirements
Immigration entry requirements for the purpose of marrying or registering a civil partnership in the UK are unchanged by the ending of the certificate of approval scheme.
Any person wishing to come to the UK to marry or register a civil partnership will still need to
obtain the correct entry clearance before they travel to the UK to marry or register a civil partnership (or give notice)

I already have entry clearence (general visitor) for the UK and I am in the UK already.

I'm hoping I can get married on a visitor visa now because I am under 21 and I cannot apply for a marriage visa which kinda sucks :(

I got accepted into university in England and I will be applying for a student visa soon. Would I be able to get married with the student visa as soon as I get it before September?

Kind regards! :)
