financial issues for spousal visa application

Hello

My friend recently got married in Pakistan, he is a British citizen and is trying to apply for his wife's visa(who is pakistani).

he used to work for Royal Bank of scotland but resigned in September '05, since September '05, he has resigned and has started his own businesses. One is a sole trader and the other one is a limited company but he does not have business acount for both of them since he has only been running them for 6 months.

He has a bank account of couple of thousand pounds. he can get projected accounts from his accountant however he can only get VAT returns from the 1st of January.

can you guys provide any advice on how he should apply for his wife's visa in terms of how can he show that he can support his wife financially
