My student visa expired in May and overstayed in the country for 4 months i;e till September.While at the Airport when I want to return home my Visa was checked and told that I would not be able to come to UK for another 3 years as I had overstayed.is this true

Are you asking if it is true that this happened to you, or if you are banned for 3 years? The former we can't answer and only you know; the latter is not correct. A period of overstay would result in a ban for 12 months from the time of leaving the UK if the person leaves at their own expense (rather than the state's).

No I am talking about the latter.which means am i banned in entering the country for 3 years or banned for one year.to be true i left the country in September 11,2010 and my Visa expired in May 12th ,2010.So according to your answer am i eligible to enter now..Thank you

...ban is until i think 10 september 2011.... or 365 days after u left uk...
