Passport Expiration Problem

Hello All,
I need some help. I am here in UK as a student and my passport is going to expire on 27 aug but my VISA is still valid. Is it possible to exit UK in the first week of september without any problem? Can any body know the rule or where to find it. I want to avoid the hassle of passport renewal here. Is it right?

I suspect you'll have a problem getting on a flight without a valid passport, I'm afraid....

As far as I know, one cannot travel to any other country with a expired passport irrespective of the visa...

I want to avoid the hassle of passport renewal here.
Why? Sounds like it will be more of a hassle go home to renew your passport.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Sometimes the hassle is well worth it I believe. :wink:

For instance, if u renew ur passport @ the Zim embassy in the UK, it takes 9 months for a new passport to come thru, sometimes longer!! Fly to harare though & an emergency passport will be issued in 24 hours (especiall if u don't currently reside in the country). It costs a whole lot more but gives immediate peace of mind. 8)

Well, I am South African and it's not much better for South Africans. Currently a full South African passport takes 4 months to be issued whether you do it through the embassy or whether you apply back home. Don't even bother applying for a temporary South African passport though because the UK government no longer accepts them as acceptable travel documents.

Some countries will allow their citizens to enter the country with any proof of citizenship to include an expired passport - the airline will likely have evidence of that in their 'visa regime list'. Depends on the applicants nationality. It might be best to apply for an extension of the passport if that is a possibility via the relevant consular representation in the UK.
