Family Visitor visa refused - Please suggest

Hi all

Can anyone please suggest me how to go ahead now?. My wife is pregnant and baby is due in Feb. We want my mother-in-law to be here during delivery. She is supported by my Father-In-Law. He is a retired employee and getting pension. My MIL's visa got rejected because of two following reasons.


"I note that you have not submitted any evidence of your personal and financial circumstances. You state you do not work and are supported by your spouse but you have failed to provide sufficient evidence of his employment.

On your application form you have stated that you wish to visit your daughter and her family and that you will stay with her for the duration of your visit. You have presented her tenancy agreement as evidence of her accommodation however this document does not show the size of the property or the current occupancy levels. I am not satisfied that you will be accommodated adequately....."

First reason was because of some missing documents. I will produce them with the re-application.

I am worried about the second reason. I need your suggestion. I am staying in one bedroom flat. Though it is 1 bedroom it is a spacious flat. I have submitted NOC from my letting agent also. Do I need to move to the two bedroom flat before re-applying?

How many rooms are in your flat? Remember the basic rule is not about beds, but about rooms. So sitting room or TV lounge will also be considered as room.

Secondly, once re-applying for visa, kindly arrange a letter from your property managing agent or a solicitor about space availability.

Attach the letter along with the tenency agreement and then submit your application.

Hope this will work...worked in my case.

We have 1 bedroom, 1 living room, Spam and bathroom. Do I need to mention in my covering letter that we have 2 rooms plus Spam?

As I mentioned, You can go to any solicitor, property agent or even request your respective city or borough council for an evaluation. The fees for such a letter will be up to GBP 100. This is max. most of the solicitors and agents do that around GBP 30 to 50.

In your cover letter, just mentioned that you have an additional room to accomodate your relative and solicitor or agent letter is attached for this purpose.

Off course you can. Just tell them that you need a letter for property assessment and you need that for Home Office. Most of the property dealers already had a format ready for this. So there shouldn't be a problem. In case, they are not willing to give yo the aforesaid letter, then go for any solicitor. This is not a very big issue.
